I strongly support expanding Medicaid in Texas, which will immediately provide 1 million hard-working, low-income, uninsured Texas families with health care coverage. Expanding Medicaid also makes sure Texas taxpayers help people in Texas, rather than sending their federal taxes to Washington, D.C.

I understand that Medicare is what keeps many seniors from falling into poverty, which is why I have always opposed efforts to cut Medicare or turn it into a voucher program. Instead, I support efforts to reduce waste and fraud and to lower prescription drug costs, which will save billions for seniors and reduce the overall cost of Medicare.

Furthermore, to strengthen Medicare over the long term, I would support allowing Medicare to directly negotiate prescription drug prices with pharmaceutical companies, which would save the program $24 billion annually.
