AUSTIN - Representative Pete P. Gallego (D-Alpine) proposed legislation that would create what would be the Texas Academy of Fine Arts, Culture, and Sciences (FACS) at Sul Ross State University. The intent of Gallego’s legislation is to provide a needed and desirable, additional "early entrance" opportunity for Texas high school students. Under the legislation the academy would be under the management and control of the board of regents of Sul Ross State University.

AUSTIN - Funding for civil legal aid in Texas, which depends primarily on interest accrued on lawyers’ trust accounts funds, is currently in crisis due to expected funding cuts brought on by an unprecedented and dramatic reduction in interest rates.
