Rep. Pete Gallego Speaks on Mexican Independence Day

AUSTIN, TX - September 16, or diez y seis de Septiembre: El Grito de Independencia, is Mexican Independence Day. Throughout the world, Mexicans commemorate this day as the beginning of their independence from Spain; District 74 is no exception. Throughout West Texas and all over the country, people are celebrating the foundation of their heritage.

September 16th assumed the title of Mexican Independence Day because it was the first day of the ten-year Mexican Independence War. Rep. Gallego stated, "I've been to the steps of the church in Dolores Hidalgo, MX where Father Hidalgo stood his ground with the Grito de Dolores; it is a revered place. Gallego went on to say, "I invite you all to take a moment today to look back and celebrate your heritage and thank all of the people in our lives that helped us get here today.
